Adult Christian Formation
Adult Formation Committee
The Adult Formation Committee works with clergy, staff, and interested parishioners to develop educational programming to assist people on their faith journeys. The goal is to provide broad-based learning opportunities for everyone. These include classes and small group discussions held from September through May during the Christian Education Hour on Sundays, at Tuesdays Together, the weekly get-together for the parish, and other times during the program year. The committee also plans the Purple Perspective Lenten Lecture Series which invites guest speakers to the community. All Adult Formation offerings are open to the public.
The Adult Forum meets each Sunday after the 9 am service from 10:10 to 11 am in the Undercroft during the program year. Forums are informal gatherings for parishioners, a chance to socialize and meet newcomers, as well as to hear short lectures on timely topics, and to hear parishioners talk about their individual ministries at Christ Church.
Purple Perspectives is the Christ Church annual series of lectures that are given at the church each Tuesday during Lent. The lecture series is themed, meaning that each lecturer talks about a set topic, so that parish members and the public hear different points of view during the Lenten season. Purple Perspective speakers have included nationally recognized figures within the Christian and Episcopal church, as well as noted authorities from other faiths. The public is welcome to attend these lectures and there is no admission charge.
The Sweeny Memorial Lecture Fund In Christian Ethics And Theology is named in memory of long-time Christ Church Grosse Pointe parishioners, Mary Margaret Sweeny and Donald N. Sweeny, Jr. It was originally funded in 1986 and is sustained by a family endowment. The goal of the lecture series is to educationally enrich the greater Grosse Pointe community and the congregation of Christ Church Grosse Pointe by inviting a speaker or speakers to address the congregation and the community on a subject broadly relevant to Christian ethics and theology.
