Christ Church Grosse Pointe Welcomes You

Children's Christian Formation

Sunday School

"All children are welcome and expected to be part of our Sunday School program."

Sarah Wheeler,
Director of Child & Family Ministries

Christ Church welcomes your family each Sunday from 10:10am to 11am to join our Christian Formation programs. No registration is necessary. If you are a member of Christ Church, your children between the ages of 3 and 11 years of age are listed on our attendance rosters. They have a name tag and study booklet waiting for them, and a teacher who lovingly plans each Sunday’s session for them. All children share in fellowship with each other and their teachers. A peanut-free snack is provided.

Class Descriptions

Pre-K 3-4 year olds - (Room 112) 1st floor, across from the Nursery. Classes enjoy the unprecedented, Montessori-based Godly Play curriculum.

Kindergarten – Advanced Godly Play (Room 212)
First Grade – Advanced Godly Play (Room 216). Kindergarten and 1st Grade get a deeper Godly Play experience, taking the stories they’ve heard before just a bit farther and then discovering new experiences of our Apostles and Saints.

2nd Grade – Living the Good News — 1st semester; Holy Communion Education — 2nd semester (Room 217). Second graders spend the first "semester" with Episcopal Children's Curriculum (ECC), then move into a FULL second semester of Holy Communion Education. This will allow much-needed time to cover the rich learning opportunities surrounding the Sacrament of Holy Communion.

3rd Grade – Living the Good News (Room 213)
4th and 5th Grade – Living the Good News (Room 215). Third, fourth and fifth graders continue with ECC, but with deliberate "enrichment" curriculum added throughout the year.

In addition to the curriculum, each age group is given selective "supplemental objectives" to develop a greater understanding of some "basics" – the Bible and its authors, the Lord's prayer, the Beatitudes, our Episcopalian identity and history, our Worship service order, and Stewardship – just to name a few. These lessons are timed to coincide with our liturgical year.

Mother's Day Out

Mother's Day Out (MDO) is a community outreach function of Christ Church Grosse Pointe. The program serves non-working mothers in the community, giving them, at nominal cost, a respite from the rigors of caring for small children.

The program operates Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 9am to 1pm, with the mothers selecting one or two of the four days per week. MDO follows the Grosse Pointe School calendar.

There are four caregivers who supervise the children and the program can accommodate up to 22 children per day. The children are divided between two rooms, depending upon the age of the child. Mothers send their children with a snack and lunch and are free to pick them up at any time during the four hours of operation. There are a variety of age-appropriate activities for the children including the exploration of dramatic play, creative arts, large muscle development and coordination and language arts.

MOPS
(Mothers of Preschoolers)

MOPS LogoMothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) is an international Christian organization that offers support and fellowship to moms with children ages birth through kindergarten. Moms attend meetings to hear a speaker, engage in organized discussion, complete a creative activity, and network with other moms in the same season of life. While the moms are meeting, their children are cared for by wonderful volunteers in the MOPPETS program. Children ages 2 and older are taught a Christian curriculum.

MOPS meetings are held at Christ Church the first and third Monday of the month, Sept. 19 through June 4, 9:15 to 11:30 am. Moms must register prior to attending, so that their children can be placed in the MOPPETS program. For more information about MOPS in general, please visit www.mops.org. For more information, contact MOPS Co-Coordinator Erika Page or find us on Facebook: Grosse Pointe MOPS.
