Christ Church Grosse Pointe Welcomes You

Pizza Lunch

Pizza Lunch is the largest weekly attendance outreach program at Christ Church. Attended by two "huge waves" of students every Thursday during First and Second Lunch from Grosse Pointe South High School.

For the past six years, young adults seeking a "break from school," gobble up six varieties of JETS Pizza which is delivered pizza oven hot. "Many students that can't afford a meal or slice of pizza are also fed." And the rest of students in attendance get pizza and soda at 1/2 the cost of their own high school cafeteria.

Students also enjoy hanging out, talking and games during Pizza Lunch. Students are met each week by a group of adult volunteers who serve pizza and soda.

Students need not be members of the Christ Church to attend Pizza Lunch.

Many students attend Pizza Lunch for their four years in high school. Some return after they have moved on to careers, military or college to say "Hello."

All volunteers have bright smiles, know many students by name and some also have students at South High School.

Volunteers include: Ben Daume, students call him Uncle Ben, Polly Ledyard, Susan Heinen, Kirstie Jungers, Sherri Conway, Lori Varas, Alex Varas, Mark Varas, Matthew Varas, George Port, Mark Lorenger, Phil, Rob & Lisa Flores.

Many of the weekly students and volunteers love when Christ Church staff take time to visit weekly at Pizza Lunch. "It makes everyone feel at home. We smile and laugh a lot. This volunteer opportunity builds a great community, creates new friendships and generates a family feeling."

We fondly remember, and thank ALL of our past Pizza Lunch founders and volunteers. You all helped build a future for Christ Church.

Please contact PIZZA LUNCH if you have time to volunteer on Thursdays from 10 am to 12:15 pm. Or, just stop by for a slice of pizza.
