Special Classes During Lent

Exploring "Bible Women" (by Lindsay H Freeman)
Wednesdays in Lent, 1:30 pm to 3 pm
(March 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 and April 5)
Led by The Rev'd Vicki Hesse

Women of the Bible have been trapped in dry and dusty literary caskets for centuries. Yet their words are part of God's Word, the Bible, for a reason. Through these women, God spoke, intervened, changed, illustrated, and proclaimed the story of redemption. Their words are part of God’s word, the bible, for a reason. Their words are meant for us. (Optional fee for book)

For more information contact the Rev'd Vicki Hesse at 313-885-4841, ext. 116.

Exploring "Breathing Underwater" (by Richard Rohr)
Thursdays in Lent, 7 pm to 8 pm (March 2, 9, 16, 24, 31, and April 6)
Led by David Redfield and Blair Osborn

Join us to explore our spiritual journeys together in pathways of fulfillment and contribution in the world.  “Breathing Underwater” engages 12 chapters corresponding to the 12 Steps of Alcoholic Anonymous.  We will, with Rohr, unpack each “Step” with scriptural references that embody our journey. Lent is a time of self-examination to align our will with God’s.  Our weekly reading and conversation will merge the practical steps of spiritual growth with the mystical meaning of God’s call to an abundant and fulfilled life. (small fee for book and journal)

For more information contact the Rev'd Vicki Hesse at 313-885-4841, ext. 116.

Spotlight on Outreach
Wednesdays in Lent (March 8, 15, 22, 29, and April 5)
Led by Jean Redfield and The Rev’d Canon Ron Spann

Many of us have a deep sense that the world is not as it should be. This series will be an opportunity to engage with material presented in the ‘Spotlight on Outreach’ Rector’s Forums. We will have small group conversations about how we can participate in God’s work of healing and restoration in the world.

For more information contact the Rev'd Canon Ron Spann at 313-885-4841, ext. 113.

Exploring "Life Together" (by Dietrich Bonhoeffer)
Wednesdays in Lent (March 8, 15, 22, 29, and April 5)
Led by The Rev’d Drew Van Culin

In the shadow of Nazi Germany, Bonhoeffer returned northern Germany to shepherd an underground community of Christian disciples and students.  Through this inspiring and challenging account, we will explore not only our individual Christian journey but what makes for authentic and life-giving Christian community.  Join Fr. Drew and the Catechumenate for this nourishing exploration.

For more information contact the Rev'd Drew Van Culin at 313-885-4841, ext. 106.

Special Classes During Eastertide

Exploring "Being Disciples" (by Rowan Williams)
Wednesdays in Eastertide (April 19, 26, May 3 and 10)
Led by The Rev’d Drew Van Culin

In the light of the Resurrection and in final preparation for Pentecost and the renewal of our Baptismal Covenant, we will explore together Rowan Williams insights on Christian discipleship through his book, Being Disciples.  Having already reflected on fundamentals of our Christian faith and community (cf. Being Christian and Life Together) we turn now to our personal call as followers of Christ.  What does this life-long journey mean?  What are the tools that will help us along the way?  Join Fr. Drew and the Catechumenate as we explore the call of Christ and our humble response.

For more information contact the Rev'd Drew Van Culin at 313-885-4841, ext. 106.
