Christ Church Grosse Pointe Welcomes You

Pastoral Care

Pastoral Care Support Team

The role of the Pastoral Care Support Team is to provide gentle, occasional calls and visits to parishioners and friends of Christ Church who have experienced loss, sickness or isolation.

Team members are not required to have special training, just a caring and friendly spirit. This extension of pastoral care is intended to reach out beyond the capacity of clergy and Stephen Ministers. Team members also provide our shut-ins with weekly recordings of our services, service leaflets and a photo of the altar with the floral display of the day.

Stephen Ministry

Stephen Ministry has been a part of Christ Church program of pastoral care for 16 years. Initially, one clergy and three parishioners were trained to be presenters and facilitators.

Stephen Ministers are confidential and compassionate friends who will listen, one on one, during times of loss or other painful situations.

Stephen Ministers are lay parishioners who have received 50 hours of training at Christ Church and who meet regularly for peer supervision.

To request a Stephen Minister for yourself or someone you know, or for further information about the Christ Church Stephen Ministry program, contact the Christ Church Office, 885-4841.

The next training classes for Stephen Ministers at Christ Church is planned for the fall of 2007. Clergy Liaison, David Dieter 313-885-4841 ext. 105

We are a part of a national network of Stephen Ministries

Daughters of the King (DOK)

DOK is a religious order for women in the Episcopal Church, with affiliate chapters in the Anglican, Roman Catholic and Lutheran Churches.

Each member undertakes a Rule of Life, pledging herself to a lifelong program of prayer, service and evangelism, dedicated to the spread of Christ's Kingdom, especially among women, and the strengthening of the spiritual life of her parish.

Members of the St. Monnica Chapter at Christ Church are involved in all aspects of the work of the parish. They serve as chalice bearers, lectors, members of the Vestry and members of the Altar Guild. They are also Sunday school teachers, ushers and sing in the choir. Members assist at healing services, teach or attend Bible classes and sponsor study groups. The St Monnica Chapter also sponsors Quiet Days, workshops and intercessory prayer groups.

Margaret Franklin began the Order in 1885 in New York City. There are now Daughters chapters worldwide. In purpose and origin, the Order is closely allied with the Brotherhood of St. Andrew.

The emblem of the Order is a silver Greek cross which members wear at all times. Latin words inscribed on this cross broadly-translate, "With the heart mind and spirit uphold the cross." Ordained women may also become members.

The Daughters in the St. Monnica Chapter meet in Miller Hall the first Monday of the month at 7:15pm. All are most welcome to attend.
