Christ Church Grosse Pointe Welcomes You

Worship Ministries

Acolytes & Vergers

Becoming an Acolyte is both an honor and service to God. Acolytes at Christ Church Grosse Pointe begin their training and service in the fourth grade, but are welcome to join anytime after they have entered the fourth grade.

A mandatory Acolyte training session is held four times a year. Acolytes serve at each Sunday morning service and are scheduled on a rotating basis. Each Acolyte team is led by an adult who is called a Verger. The Verger is responsible for coordinating the Acolytes for the assigned service.

Altar Guild

The Altar Guild is a group of devoted and dedicated people who set out the appropriate linens and vessels, wine, water, and wafers in preparation for each service. All linens are washed and ironed, and all silver kept in good repair. There is a special sense of pride and pleasure in contributing to worship in a quiet behind-the-scenes way. The Rector appoints new members to the Guild, and experienced members carry out their training. Coordinator, Sharon Snyder

Eucharistic Ministers

Eucharistic Ministers are confirmed parishoners who pass the chalice. They serve at the 5:30, 8:00, 9:00, and 11:15 services. They also may volunteer to serve at special services (baptisms, weddings, funerals). They serve once every 3-4 weeks.

One three-hour training session is offered through The Whitaker School of Theology. At the successful completion of the training, you will be issued a license by the Bishop to perform this extra-ordinary ministry. David Dieter, clergy liaison - 313-885-4841 ext. 105

Eucharistic Visitors

Eucharistic Visitors take the consecrated elements from the Sunday service to shut ins or those not able to attend church. They serve once a month.

Two three-hour sessions on the ministry of the Eucharistic Visitor as well as one four-hour session on "Making the Church a Safer Place" offered by The Whitaker School of Theology. At the successful completion of the training, you will be issued a license by the Bishop to perform this extra-ordinary ministry. David Dieter, clergy liaison - 313-885-4841 ext. 105

Flower Committee

The Flower Committee is responsible for all flowers in worship, arranging altar flowers weekly, and providing flowers for delivery to parishioners as part of an outreach ministry. Coodinator, Carol Gaskin

Greeters

The Greeters serve as the Christ Church hosts and hostesses by welcoming visitors, new members, and parishioners on Sunday mornings and by handing Christ Church Visitor bags during the service

Lectors

An important part of the liturgy involves the reading of the Scripture and leading the Prayers of the People. Lectors are parishioners who provide this necessary leadership during the services.

Training is provided and the opportunity to assist in worship is open to any person who can read well. David Dieter, clergy liaison - 313-885-4841 ext. 105

Ushers

The ushers are a group of men and women whose duties are to greet, seat, and give directions or aid to parishioners and guests for services, concerts, funerals, and other church events. If you are interested in becoming an usher, contact the church office. Jeff von Schwarz, coordinator.

Vestment Guild

Newly formed, this group is a subgroup under the auspices of the Altar Guild and its leadership. Its function is to assist with the care of maintenance of the Christ Church Grosse Pointe vestments. The Vestment Guild will also research and arrange for additional vestments and altar paraments.

The Guild is open to anyone interested in fine fabrics, liturgical vestment design and the care of these items. David Dieter, clergy liaison - 313-885-4841 ext. 105
