Children's Formation

Godly Play

Pre-K: 3 and 4 Year Olds
Sundays:  September through May
10:10 - 11 am
Location:  2nd Floor Ed. Wing

3-4 YO: B-212
K-1st: B-216

Children ages 3 to 4 will be introduced to God’s story through Godly Play, a practical and innovative approach to religious education that helps children develop spiritually by experiencing God in the midst of play.  In Godly Play, we follow the shape of worship through a greeting at the threshold, gathering together, hearing the Word, wondering or making sense of the Word, personal response time, sharing a feast, and dismissal.

Manipulatives are used to tell these stories in an engaging and interactive way.  In an uncluttered and unhurried setting, children can experience the stories of our faith in a new way.

Advanced Godly Play
Kindergarten through 1st Grade
Sundays:  September through May
10:10 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Location: 2nd Floor Ed.  Wing
K-1st: B-216

Our Kindergarten and 1st Graders continue the Godly Play curriculum, returning annually to the foundational stories of our faith with the addition of enrichment stories each year.  As our children mature, the program grows with them, encouraging them to continue to explore their faith and God’s story through the weekly wonder question and response time.

Holy Communion Enrichment

2nd Grade
Sundays: September through May

We will cover a variety of topics such as the Twelve Apostles, how the Church began to grow, the Ten Commandments, the Book of Common Prayer, and the set-up of the Altar.  This enrichment experience will transform our children’s perception of the Sacrament of Holy Communion and help them to understand it better.

Note: Your child does not have to complete this class to take Holy Communion in the Episcopal Church.

Children’s Chapel

Every Sunday our children are invited to continue their worship in an age appropriate and meaningful at Children’s Chapel.  Following the Children’s Sermon, children are escorted by chapel volunteers and youth shepherds to the Education wing for Children’s Chapel, returning for the Peace.

Guild of the Christ Child

The Guild of the Christ Child provides support to individuals and families who are planning a Baptism at Christ Church Grosse Pointe. We recognize that it may be a time at which people are beginning their life with the church or returning to their church life. We welcome them and provide information that may help them to feel more comfortable and understand other opportunities that are available. Others already may be established with the church; we hope to further their experience of the sacrament of Holy Baptism.

Guild members help to ensure that families have the information they need prior to Baptism. They are also available to assist families during Baptism services. The Guild gives a gift of a Baptismal banner to each candidate, which is displayed during the Baptism service.

Please contact Holly McNett at or 313-885-4841, ext. 104 for further information or to volunteer with the Guild.
