Participation is open to the parish as a whole, and everyone at Christ Church is encouraged to be part of this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Itinerary*

DAY 1: SUNDAY, JULY 26 – DEPART THE USA
Depart USA on flights to Berlin, Germany.

DAY 2: MONDAY, JULY 27 – ARRIVE IN BERLIN
Arrive in Berlin and meet your European tour manager. Depart on your motorcoach for a panoramic tour of Berlin (pending arrival time). Enjoy a welcome dinner before overnight in Berlin.

DAY 3: TUESDAY, JULY 28 – BERLIN
Begin with a morning tour that still gives evidence of the former divided city. View the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, remnants of the former city wall, the State Opera House, and the Brandenburg Gate (exterior views only). Lunch on own before a visit to the renown Pergamon Museum, where one may see the reconstruction of classic architecture from biblical periods of Turkey, Greece, and Egypt. It was at Pergamum (Turkey) that Christians became the first martyrs under decree of Emperor Domitian (entrance fee included). Visit the Kurfurstendamm Ka De Ve shopping area prior to a visit of the Bonhoeffer House. Evening concert at St. Nicholas Church (subject to confirmation) and then dinner on own. Overnight in Berlin.

DAY 4: WEDNESDAY, JULY 29 – BERLIN | WITTENBERG | LEIPZIG
This morning drive to Wittenberg to enjoy a guided tour of Wittenberg, Luther's work site from 1512 to 1546, until his death. View the Luther House (former Augustinian monastery), his monument in the market square, and Castle Church where Luther nailed his 95 Thesis on the Castle Church, and where he is buried along with Melanchthon. Informal singing concert at Castle Church (pending confirmation). Wittenberg was Luther’s home for over 30 years. Visit the interior of the Luther House. Continue to Leipzig for dinner and overnight.

DAY 5: THURSDAY, JULY 30 – LEIPZIG | EISENACH
Breakfast at the hotel before departing on a tour of the city of books and music. Begin a city tour at the Thomaskirche, where the famous Thomaner Choir originated. The Church owes its fame to Johann Sebastian Bach who was the presenter of the church from 1723 to 1750 and who is buried there. It is also where Mozart and Mendelssohn performed, and where Richard Wagner was christened. See the largest collection of Bach archives in Germany at the Bachmuseum. Concert at St. Thomas Church (pending confirmation). Lunch on own before departing for Eisenach. Dinner as group and overnight in Eisenach.

DAY 6: FRIDAY, JULY 31 – EISENACH | WARTBURG | BAYREUTH
This morning, visit the house of Johann Sebastian Bach. Today, the Bachhaus is one of the largest musician’s museums in Germany. Every hour there is a short concert on five Baroque keyboard instruments. Installations such as the “Walkable Composition” make Bach’s music a complete experience. Lunch on own. Depart for Bayreuth, and stop en route at Wartburg medieval Castle, also known from Wagner's "Tannhauser". Upon arrival in Bayreuth, dinner on own and overnight in Bayreuth.

DAY 7: SATURDAY, AUGUST 1 – BAYREUTH | NUREMBERG | MUNICH
Enjoy breakfast at your hotel before departing for then depart for Nuremburg to see the historic WWII history and sites. Continue on to Munich. Upon arrival enjoy a panoramic tour of the city by bus. This evening attend evening service. Celebratory group dinner and overnight in Munich.

DAY 8: SUNDAY, AUGUST 2 – MUNICH | NEUSCHWANSTEIN | OBERAMMERGAU
After breakfast at your hotel, depart to Oberammergau. Upon arrival in Oberammergau enjoy lunch in the village. This afternoon, attend the 1st Act of the world-famous Oberammergau Passion Play. During intermission, have dinner at a local restaurant and free time for souvenir shopping. Afterward, attend the 2nd Act of the Passion Play. Overnight at a hotel near Oberammergau.

DAY 9: MONDAY, AUGUST 3 – OBERAMMERGAU | MUNICH
Depart Oberammergau for Munich for your return flight to the USA
